Marcia Cox, CMB, LUTCF, Owner, Program Director

marciaAs Owner and Program Director of Physicians Weight Management Centers, Marcia offers a unique perspective. In 2005 she successfully underwent gastric bypass surgery and lost over 115 lbs.

Marcia was petrified she would gain all her weight back and that's what led her to a career in bariatrics. “I knew I needed the educational part to be successful with weight loss and weight maintenance but I also knew that driving to Phoenix every week or every month was not realistic”.  “What I realized is that no matter how a person loses their weight (either with surgery or a medically-supervised program like ours) the same education about behavior, nutrition, exercise and motivation are critical to long term success.” What’s also interesting is that Marcia says many of the patients that have lost weight with Physicians Weight Management Centers lose faster than she did with surgery! Imagine that!

Marcia’s background includes 25 years in the insurance industry (still licensed and keeping up on the issues of the day) but in the past 5 years has been active in working with medically supervised weight management. “Our program not only treats the person medically but provides the weekly education component for nutrition, exercise and behavior. Maintenance is critical and a very important part of our program.”

Marcia is still an active member of the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU), and earned her LUTCF designation in 1987. Marcia is also an active member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP) and has had the pleasure of speaking to attendees at both regional and national conferences. Marcia has also been a speaker for Contemporary Forums as well as The Science and Business of Weight Management conference. Physicians Weight Management Centers is also the recipient of the Small Business Development Centers 2011 Success Award. “This was a great honor for us. Our goal has always been to help people achieve and maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle so this reaffirms that we are out in the community working with people that are interested in our program.”

Physicians Weight Management Centers work with medical providers in our community to provide their patient’s the tools to lose weight and keep it off.  Marcia’s goal for her own clinic is to help patients achieve a healthy weight loss and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Marcia’s program also provides a group support setting for pre and post-op surgical patients.

Marcia and her family have lived in Lake Havasu for almost 22 years. Marcia and her husband Dennis have two children, two son-in-laws and two grandchildren.

Doug Hade, MD

drhadeSince graduating from the University of Washington in 1975 and the University of South Dakota School of Medicine in 1981 Dr. Hade has had the opportunity to work with both our nation’s military and civilian population.

From his internship at the naval hospital in Bremerton Washington to a position as a flight surgeon with the 1st Marine Brigade in Kaneohe, Hawaii, a family practice staff member at the naval hospital in 29 Palms, California and finally settling in Lake Havasu City in private practice in 1991 Dr. Hade has focused on partnering with his patients to optimize their health and quality of life.

At Physicians Weight Management Centers Dr. Hade enjoys seeing each patient’s progress. “It’s incredible the impact that carrying excess weight has on a person’s overall health. The consequences can be devastating” said Dr. Hade.  “So imagine how exciting it is when even a small change in weight has such a great benefit”.

Instead of hobbies Dr. Hade spends as much time as possible with his grandchildren. “We’re blessed to have so many of our grandchildren live so close. That way we can spend more time together”.

L.D. Lumpkin, LCSW

LD-Lumpkin

LD Lumpkin (or LD for short) is PWMC’s behaviorist. LD graduated from the University of Texas in Arlington in 1992 with a Master Degree in Social Work. Once out of college, he specialized is the treatment of addictions.

He moved to Lake Havasu City in 1995 to start an outpatient addiction treatment program for what was then Samaritan Regional Hospital. Continuing his work with Havasu Regional LD has continued providing psychiatric services with the hospital. In addition to his work at Havasu Regional and Physicians Weight Management Center, LD has a private practice in which he sees clients for a variety of issues including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance abuse and relationship problems.
LD’s insight and passion for our patients is a great asset to our program. Many times we’ll hear people leaving one of LD’s lectures making comments like “I really got a lot out of that one” or “Man that talk really hit home.”

LD really enjoys working with our patients and appreciates that there is a program like ours for people to attend. LD is married with four kids and enjoys hot weather running. What better place than Lake Havasu City for that!
PWMC is fortunate to have LD as part of our team.

Sherri Caddy, RD, CDE

sherriIn February of 2010, Physicians Weight Management Centers was proud to announce Sherri Caddy, RD; CDE would be teaching our nutrition classes. Sherri is a great asset, especially at the maintenance phase of our program.

Sherri became a Registered Dietician (RD) in 1999 and has been a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) since 2002. It was always a professional goal of Sherri’s to become a CDE to help others live well with Diabetes, especially those on insulin. Sherri moved to Lake Havasu in 2001 and started her practice here in 2002. Insulin pump training was the precursor to making an important step to opening her business.

Sherri chose a career as a Registered Dietician, not because of a love of food but because of the amount of time that is spent with patients. “Most other disciplines (doctors, nurses, etc) spend only a few minutes with a patient and that is never enough to truly help someone learn and live with Diabetes” said Sherri.

In our group classes Sherri has a positive impact on our patients and the education needed to take the final step into our Maintenance phase. “We’ve always said our program is a journey to a new lifestyle, and Sherri is key to teaching our patients about the long-term effects of eating the right amount of calories, fat, carbohydrates and protein” said Marcia.

Sherri loves the water, traveling and desert off-road riding.

John Twomey, P.T., Pro Therapy

JohnAs founder and director of Pro Therapy, Inc. John is a perfect complement to our program. It was like getting “two-for-one” because John’s wealth of knowledge spans not just physical therapy but fitness and exercise education too.

John established Pro Therapy Inc. in April 2001, with one goal, “Commitment to a more personalized, hand- on approach to physical therapy”.  With over twenty years experience John didn’t hesitate when offered the opportunity to work with Physicians Weight Management Centers.

“Our patients really enjoy John’s classes and his hands on approach to taking the mystery out of fitness and exercise” says Marcia.  “Many times it’s a matter of just getting started”  Whether it’s walking or using free weights or exercise bands John’s motto is “Finesse Not Force”. What a concept!

As an added value to our program, John and his team at Pro Therapy provide a free assessment when they are ready to start their fitness program. Long term maintenance must include strength and aerobic activity and Physicians Weight Management Centers appreciates John’s commitment to our patients.
